General Dentistry

Keep your smile healthy

At the Indiana University School of Dentistry, we’re committed to helping all Hoosiers maintain good oral health. That’s why we offer a range of general dentistry services at an affordable cost.

When you choose the School of Dentistry for your dental care, you’re also helping prepare the oral health professionals of the future. As a patient here, you’ll be treated by students who are training to become dentists and hygienists.

Services

General dentistry services are provided by third- and fourth-year dental students in the school’s eight Comprehensive Care Clinics. Each clinic is overseen by a director who is a licensed dentist. The clinic directors closely supervise the student dentists to ensure that you receive the best possible care.

Services offered include:

  • Preventive care (exams, X-rays, and cleanings)
  • Fillings
  • Crowns
  • Bridges
  • Dentures

If you need advanced care—for example, a root canal—you will be referred to one of the school’s advanced care clinics.

Fees and insurance

The cost of your care will depend upon what services you receive, but in general, the school’s fees are substantially less than you would pay at a private dental practice. The school accepts several dental insurance plans as well as Medicaid.

If you do not have dental insurance or Medicaid, you are expected to pay your bill at the time of your appointment. If you are unable to pay your entire bill at the time of your appointment, you will have the opportunity to meet with a financial consultant to discuss payment options.
