Master of Science in Dentistry (M.S.D.)

Apply to the Master of Science in Dentistry program

The Indiana University School of Dentistry offers a Master of Science in Dentistry (M.S.D.) degree program with seven majors. This advanced dental education program is a combined degree and certificate program that will prepare you for clinical practice or teaching in one of these areas:

  • Cariology and operative dentistry
  • Dental materials
  • Endodontics
  • Orthodontics
  • Pediatric dentistry
  • Periodontology
  • Prosthodontics

Admission requirements

To be eligible to apply for the M.S.D. program, you must:

  • Hold a D.D.S. or D.M.D. degree from an accredited U.S. or Canadian dental school. Graduates of international dental schools who have an equivalent educational background and standing are eligible to apply for all majors except pediatric dentistry.
  • Have a cumulative dental school GPA of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale
  • Demonstrate proficiency in the English language. If English is not your native language, you must earn a minimum score of 79 on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) iBT or 6.5 on the Cambridge International English Language Testing System (IELTS).

Clinical and/or research experience will strengthen your application.

Additional requirements by major:

You must have completed a one-year GPR or AEGD or have private practice experience.

You must be in the upper third of your dental school graduating class and have grades of B or better in your dental school prosthodontics classes.
