Dr. Steven Ellinwood (DDS’85) has been appointed director of Indiana University Fort Wayne (IUFW) Dental Education. He continues as clinical assistant professor of IUFW Dental Hygiene and director of the Dental Hygiene Clinic. In his new role, Dr. Ellinwood will oversee and all dental education programs on the IU Fort Wayne campus, including Dental Hygiene, Dental Assisting, and Dental Laboratory Technology.
“We are so grateful to Dr. Ellinwood for accepting our invitation to serve our dental programs and the dental school in this new role,” said IU School of Dentistry Dean Dr. Carol Anne Murdoch-Kinch. “He brings a wealth of leadership experience, passion for dental education, and deep connections and relationships within the community that will serve him well as we build upon our tradition of clinical excellence in the dental programs at IUFW to meet dental workforce needs in northeast Indiana.”
After 36 years in private dental practice in Fort Wayne, Dr. Ellinwood transitioned to higher education when he joined the IUFW dental faculty in 2018. He has held leadership positions in organized dentistry, including past president of the Indiana Dental Association and council member and Seventh District (Ohio and Indiana) caucus chair of the American Dental Association. He co-founded Sonrisas Siempre, a dental mission nonprofit, which provides dental care in underserved communities in Central America.
