Hearty congratulations to D3 Justina Anigbo, who is the first IU student and first African American woman to serve as president of the American Student Dental Association (ASDA).
ASDA is the largest dental student organization in the United States, with more than 25,000 members. Anigbo was elected in February 2022 and presided last month over her first national meeting, ADA Dentist and Student Lobby Day, on Capitol Hill in Washington, DC.
“We are so proud of the accomplishments of our student, Justina Anigbo, who has held multiple leadership roles at IUSD, and now serves as the first African American female to be elected president of ASDA!,” said IUSD Dean Carol Anne Murdoch-Kinch. “We look forward to seeing the positive impact she will make in this new, national leadership role!”
In addition to her ASDA leadership, including serving as ASDA Trustee for District 7 (IUSD’s district) during the 2020-2021 school year, Anigbo serves as treasurer of the Class of 2023 and the Student National Dental Association and as vice president of the Student Professionalism and Ethics Association and the Dental Student Research Club. At IUSD’s Research Day on April 4, 2022, Anigbo received the Outstanding Research Engagement Award. She also is pursuing a master’s degree in public health.
“I am so incredibly excited to begin this journey as president of this amazing association,” Anigbo said. “Words cannot describe the joy I feel at being able to be the national representative for dental students and their interests. Being entrusted with the responsibility of advocating on behalf of all of us has been a truly humbling experience, and I would not have been able to do it without the support of my IUASDA family! I look forward to an exciting year!”
