Dean Murdoch-Kinch is pleased to announce that Dr. Joan E. Kowolik has been appointed Director of Admissions and Recruitment in the Office of Academic Programs.
In this role, Dr. Kowolik is responsible for developing and implementing programs to increase recruitment and enrollment of well-qualified and diverse student bodies for the DDS and Allied Dental professional programs to meet the workforce needs of the oral health professions. Dr. Kowolik will continue to be actively involved in teaching in the Pre-doctoral Pediatric Dentistry Department.
"Dr. Kowolik has vast experience teaching and mentoring students and has been an effective advocate for the dental school and the profession both on campus through her leadership on the IUPUI Faculty Council and nationally through the American Dental Education Association," Dean Murdoch-Kinch said. "At IUSD, Dr. Kowolik has demonstrated her commitment to developing highly competent oral health professionals by leading the IUSD Faculty Council twice, Progress Committee, and the Newcastle (England) student exchange elective, as well as serving on the IUSD Admissions Committee."
Dr. Kowolik joined the IUSD faculty in 2000 in the Department of Pediatric Dentistry. She became director of Pre-doctoral Pediatric Dentistry in 2005 and associate professor with tenure in 2008. Dr. Kowolik completed her pre-doctoral dental education at the University of Edinburgh School of Dentistry. She received her pediatric dental training at the University of Edinburgh and Leeds University Dental Schools.
In 2007 and 2016, the Indiana Dental Association recognized Dr. Kowolik as IUSD's Outstanding Teacher of the Year. She also was recognized with the Johnson Public Health Faculty Community Service Award in 2007.
