Dr. Sopanis “Minnie” Cho, clinical assistant professor, comprehensive care and general dentistry, has been named director of the Indiana University School of Dentistry’s International Dentist Program (IDP) in the Office of Academic Programs. With the retirement of Dr. David Brown, chair of comprehensive care and general dentistry, Dr. Cho will be the faculty member responsible for all aspects of the program to ensure IDP students have an exceptional educational experience at the School of Dentistry. The admissions committee and Associate Dean Dr. Melanie Peterson will continue to provide oversight and support of the IDP admissions process.
Dr. Cho has been a part of the IU School of Dentistry community since 1998, when she came to Indiana after receiving her D.D.S. degree from Mahidol University in Bangkok, Thailand. At the School of Dentistry, she completed a post-doctoral M.S.D. in operative dentistry with a minor in dental materials in 2001 and an additional D.D.S. degree in 2003, when she joined the operative dentistry faculty. In 2018, Dr. Cho completed a residency in maxillofacial prosthetics and received a certificate in prosthodontics and a certificate in maxillofacial prosthetics. She then began teaching in the Department of Prosthodontics after her graduation.
Dr. Cho’s experience as an IU School of Dentistry student and faculty member in both operative dentistry and prosthodontics makes her a terrific person to support our IDP students.
Dr. Cho is board certified in operative dentistry. She was on the board of councilors and was a chair of the written exam subcommittee of the American Board of Operative Dentistry, Inc., from 2010 to 2014.
