Interim chair no longer, Dr. Kelton Stewart assumes the official mantle as chair of the Department of Orthodontics and Facial Genetics. Dr. Stewart has been serving as interim chair since Dr. Katherine Kula retired in the beginning of 2018.
“Dr. Stewart has performed superbly in this role, and I am continuously impressed with his vision, leadership, and devotion to teaching our orthodontics residents,” said Dr. John N. Williams, dean. “He is a highly respected teacher, educator, and leader in orthodontics education nationally.”
Dr. Stewart joined the Indiana University School of Dentistry’s orthodontics faculty in 2008. He is the Dr. James J. Baldwin Professor of Orthodontics and has been serving as program director of the orthodontics graduate program and as director of the orthodontics clinic.
A Texas native, Dr. Stewart received his B.A., D.D.S., and orthodontics certificate, as well as a master’s degree in health professions at Baylor University. He recently served as president of the Society of Orthodontic Educators of the American Association of Orthodontists and as president of the Student Competition for Advancing Dental Research and its Applications. The Indiana Dental Association recognized him as 2017 Outstanding Faculty Member of the Year.
