A graduate of Indiana University Bloomington and the Indiana University School of Dentistry, Dr. Weingarten owned a private dental practice in South Bend, Indiana for 45 years before joining IU School of Dentistry as an associate clinical professor. In April of 2013, he was appointed as the Director of Continuing Education. In February of 2018, he accepted the challenge of serving as associate dean for clinical affairs at IUSD. In addition to his administrative duties, teaching schedule, and private dental practice, he is the immediate past chairman of the board of directors of the Commission on Dental Competency Assessments and currently serves as a CDCA-WREB-CITA licensure examiner as well as a senior advisor to the board of directors. Dr. Weingarten currently teaches practice management to third year dental students at IU School of Dentistry.
A past member and past president of the Indiana State Board of Dentistry, Dr. Weingarten lectures throughout the Midwest on ethics and jurisprudence. He currently sits as a member of the Vera Dwyer Advisory Board School of Health Sciences at IU South Bend. He also serves as a consultant in forensic dentistry to the Special Crimes Unit of St. Joseph County. Dr. Weingarten is proud to be a fellow of the American and International College of Dentists and has received numerous awards. His most cherished award is the Distinguished Alumnus award granted to him by IU School of Dentistry.
Dr. Weingarten’s free time is spent enjoying summertime lake life with his wife and their three daughters, sons-in law, and seven grandchildren, eating at good local restaurants, being an avid Hoosier basketball fan from fall to spring, and enjoying the football program of the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame every season.
