Dr. Tien-Min (Gabe) Chu received his D.D.S. from the Kaohsiung Medical University, Taiwan, and his Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, MI. where he also completed his post-doctoral training in Biomedical Engineering. He is the Associate Dean for Research and a tenured professor at the Department of Biomedical and Applied Sciences at the Indiana University School of Dentistry. He also holds an adjunct appointment at the Department of Orthopedic Surgery at Indiana University School of Medicine and a courtesy appointment at the Department of Biomedical Engineering at Purdue University. He is the course director of two graduate-level dental material courses and co-teaches in the first-year dental materials courses. For his service activity, he has served as the chair of the IUSD Promotion and Tenure Committee since 2021. Dr. Chu’s research focuses on the understanding of tissue-biomaterial interactions and on developing strategies to enhance regeneration in large long-bone and craniofacial defects using 3D scaffolds, growth factors, and stem cells. His research has been funded by the National Institute of Health, the Department of Defense, private foundations, and industries. He has published more than one hundred peer-reviewed papers and co-authored five US patents. Dr. Chu has been awarded the Distinguished Faculty for Research by the Indiana University School of Dentistry Alumni Association, the Dr. Dominick P. DePaola Scholar by the American Dental Education Association Leadership Institute, and the Distinguished Alumni Award by Kaohsiung Medical University. He is a member of the Omicron Kappa Upsilon National Dental Honor Society and a fellow of the American College of Dentists.
