Whether you need a routine cleaning or a complicated procedure, the School of Dentistry can meet all your oral health care needs. But no matter what type of care you’re seeking, the first step in becoming a patient at the school is to schedule an initial screening exam. You must undergo this exam before you can receive any treatment at the school.

Your screening exam will take place in the James J. Fritts, D.D.S. Clinical Care Center, located at 1121 W. Michigan Street in downtown Indianapolis
You should park in the Vermont Street garage, located at 1004 W. Vermont Street. School of Dentistry staff will provide parking validation so you can exit the garage at no cost.

At your screening exam, you will be seen by a student dentist at your first appointment. After this appointment, you will be assigned to a student dentist in one of the school’s Comprehensive Care Clinics. You will work with this same student dentist throughout your treatment at the School of Dentistry. When your student dentist graduates, you will be assigned to a new student dentist in the same Comprehensive Care Clinic.
At your screening exam, your student dentist will examine your mouth and take X-rays of your teeth. If you have had X-rays taken in another dentist’s office recently, you can bring them with you or email them to medrecor@iupui.edu. You won’t have to have new X-rays taken if your student dentist or supervising faculty dentist decides that your existing ones can be used.
After evaluating your oral health, your student dentist will make a treatment plan for you. You will not receive any treatment at the screening exam. Depending on your needs, you may continue to receive care in your assigned Comprehensive Care Clinic, or you may be referred to one of the school’s advanced care clinics.
The cost for your screening exam will be between $110 and $160. The School of Dentistry accepts several dental insurance plans and Medicaid—if you have coverage, be sure to bring your insurance card or Medicaid card to your appointment.
If you don’t have dental insurance or Medicaid, you must pay your bill at the time of your appointment. The school accepts cash, checks, money orders, and credit cards.
